Businesses in the building and construction industry that pay contractors must lodge a Taxable Payments Annual Report by 28 August each year, reporting every contractor payment made in the previous financial year.
Since 26 August 2024, whether an Australian worker is an employee or an independent contractor is decided by the real substance and practical reality of the whole working relationship, not by what the contract calls them.
