TradesConcretersHiring and team

Concreter Business HiringYou can win the work. Whether you can pour it depends on who turns up on Tuesday.

Hiring for concreting businesses. Finding finishers and labourers who show up, paying them correctly under the award, training them so the pour does not need you, and keeping them when the crew down the road offers an extra dollar.

A painted scene of two concreters walking power floats across a freshly poured slab

The week this is about

Sound Like Your Concreting Business?

A good finisher is nearly impossible to find

Anyone can push a shovel. The bloke who can read a slab as it goes off, get the timing right on the trowel and leave a finish you would put your name on is rare, and the crew down the road has already offered him more.

The award is a maze and the risk is yours

The Building and Construction General On-site Award sets the minimum, the classification level decides the rate, and allowances for fares, travel and tools stack on top of it. Get it wrong and it is your problem, not theirs, and the rates move again every July.

Pour day falls apart when one man does not show

The truck is booked and cannot be moved for free. Six o'clock comes, one bloke is not answering, and you are ringing around while the batch plant loads. So you end up in the middle of the pour again, doing the job you hired someone else to do.

You stay stuck at the size your own two hands allow, because every attempt to grow the crew has cost you money, sleep or a job you had to go back and fix.

Hiring and team

Here Is What We Do About It.

The hiring, team and leadership training covers where to find concreters worth having, how to bring them on so they can run a pour, and how to keep them. Tradie Teams puts you beside other owners solving the same crew problems, and Freedom Fighter 1:1 works on your structure directly when the team is what holds you back.

How it works

Three Steps, Starting Tonight.

Step 1

Hire before you are desperate

Every bad hire in this industry happens in the same week: the week you were already too busy. The training covers hiring on a plan instead of on a panic.

Step 2

Give them a system to follow

People do not fail because they are lazy. They fail because nobody wrote down what good looks like. That is why systems and hiring are the same problem.

Step 3

Lead them, then get off the tools

The coaching goes into the bit that is genuinely hard: running a team when you were trained as a tradesperson, and letting go of work you can do faster yourself.

Questions

Concreter Business Hiring, Answered.

What award and rates apply to the concreters I employ?
Most on site concreting work sits under the Building and Construction General On-site Award MA000020, where the classification level sets the base rate and allowances such as fares, travel and tools stack on top. Rates change with the annual wage review from 1 July. Fair Work publishes the pay guide, and our hiring training covers building it into your prices.
When can I afford my first employee or apprentice?
When the work is consistent enough that you are turning jobs down or working nights to keep up, and your pricing carries the wage plus allowances, superannuation and workers compensation. Apprentice rates are set separately by Fair Work and are lower, but the training time is real. Bring your numbers to a complimentary coaching call and we will size it with you.
How do I stop good concreters leaving for an extra dollar?
People leave crews they are not led in, not just crews that pay less. Clear expectations, a proper induction, a path to leading hand and being paid correctly under the award beat a dollar an hour most of the time. That is what the team and leadership training builds, and Tradie Teams keeps you honest about actually doing it.
