The week this is about

Sound Like Your Plumbing Business?

Business advice from the merchant queue

You pick up what you know about pricing and staff from whoever is next to you at the trade counter. Half of it is wrong, most of it is guessing, and none of it comes from someone who has actually built the business you want.

You have no time to sit down and learn

The gaps in a plumber's day are ten minutes waiting on a concreter, twenty minutes stuck in traffic to the next callout, and an hour after the kids go down. Anything that needs a desk and a clear afternoon does not fit your week.

Running a plumbing business is isolating

Your plumbers do not want to hear about cash flow. Your partner has heard enough about the builder who will not pay. Other owners you know are competitors, so you keep the real problems to yourself and carry them alone.

The knowledge you need already exists and other plumbing owners already have it, so every month you stay outside that room is a month you pay to learn it the hard way.

Questions

Plumber Business App, Answered.

Is the Tradies App actually free, or free for a trial period?
Free. If you have an active ABN in Australia or New Zealand, you get the app at no cost, with lessons, the members community and business tools. There are paid programmes if you want more, like the Learning Hub at $199 a month, but the app itself is not a trial that expires.
I am a sole trader plumber with one van. Is it for me?
Yes. A lot of members start as a one van operation still doing their own quotes at night. The lessons cover pricing a job, getting paid and taking on your first employee, which is exactly the ground a sole trader plumber is standing on. It costs nothing to look.
Does it work in New Zealand as well as Australia?
Yes. The Tradies App is free with an active ABN in Australia and New Zealand, and the business content applies on both sides of the Tasman. Licensing is where you differ: New Zealand has one national regulator, the Plumbers, Gasfitters and Drainlayers Board, rather than a licence in every state.
