WHY GENERIC DOES NOT WORK

Running a tree services business means managing physical safety risk, variable job complexity, and equipment scheduling

Whether it's safety incidents from inadequate planning, underestimating job complexity so crew works excessive hours, or equipment sitting idle between jobs. Here's what we see tree service operators wrestling with:

Safety incidents happen because hazard assessment is informal

You look at the tree, assess risk by feel, crew starts cutting. You don't have a formal assessment process. Incidents happen. You're liable. Your insurance increases or you lose coverage.

You're quoting jobs without understanding actual complexity

Tree job quoting is art, not science. You look at the tree, guess how long it takes. Some jobs take half the time, some double. Crew works long hours on complex jobs, burns out, safety suffers.

Your crews don't follow consistent safety protocols

Safety is important, but you're managing it informally. Each crew has their own approach. One crew is methodical, another cuts corners. Risk is inconsistent.

Equipment utilisation is poor - trucks, chippers, aerial lifts sit idle

Equipment is expensive. You don't know your utilisation rate. Equipment sits idle between jobs. You're financing assets that aren't generating revenue.

You are the bottleneck for every decision in the business

Every quote, every problem, every scheduling conflict lands on your desk. Your team waits for you. Your clients wait for you. You cannot step away for a week without the business grinding to a halt. That is not a business, it is a job with more risk.

You have no visibility on actual profit per job

You look at the bank account and assume you are profitable. But you are not tracking real labour cost per job, material waste, travel time, or callback frequency. Some of your jobs are making money. Some are losing it. You do not know which ones.

Built for Owners Whose Problems Are Not Simple

You have tried the group thing. You have sat in rooms with coaches who have never run a tree-services business. You have done the courses. None of it was built for the complexity you are dealing with now. This is.

This is for you if

  • Safety incidents are a concern and you're managing it informally
  • You're quoting jobs by gut feel and timelines often overrun
  • Your crews don't follow consistent safety approaches
  • Equipment utilisation is poor and you're financing idle assets
  • You want to grow without becoming the hazard assessor on every job

This is not for you if

  • You already have a formal hazard assessment process for every tree
  • Your safety protocols are documented and all crews follow them
  • Your job quoting is accurate and crew works predictable hours
  • Equipment utilisation is already optimised
  • Your business is already systematised

They Were Where You Are. Here Is What Changed.

These tree service operator business owners were exactly where you are. Here is what changed.

A Structured Path From Where You Are to Where You Want to Be

Freedom Fighter is not a course. It is a structured, phase-matched training program. Your coach meets you at your current stage and builds the systems you need - in the right order - to move to the next one.

Phase 1

Foundation

You are the business. Subbie or sole trader, maybe one or two staff. The focus here is financial visibility, basic job management, and building the commercial foundation that everything else sits on. Most owners skip this and wonder why nothing works later.

Phase 2

Growth

You have tradies on the tools but no admin support. Revenue is growing but so is the chaos. This phase is about hiring your first office person, building standard operating procedures, and creating the structure that lets you step back from every job.

Phase 3

Expansion

You have tradies and admin but no operations manager. The business runs but still needs you for every major decision. This phase builds the leadership layer, delegation frameworks, and operational systems that let you start stepping away from day-to-day.

Phase 4

Scale

Full team in place. GM or operations manager running the business. This phase is custom - it is about refining what you have built, protecting your margins, planning your next move, and making sure the business continues to perform without you in it.

Your Coach. Your Business. Your Agenda.

Fortnightly Coaching. Same Time. Same Day.

This is not group training. Every session is a private conversation between you and your coach. Same time, same day, every fortnight. Focused entirely on your business, your challenges, and your next move. Accountability is built into the structure.

  1. Phase Assessment - Your coach identifies where you are and what needs to happen next. No guessing.
  2. System Build - Each session delivers a specific system, framework, or decision that moves your business forward.
  3. Implementation - You apply it between sessions. Your coach holds you accountable at the next one.
  4. Review & Adjust - What worked, what did not, what changes. Your plan evolves as your business does.
Typical Session Structure
Fortnightly. Zoom. Accountability.
  • Review progress since last session
  • Address your current blockers and challenges
  • Deliver the next system or framework for your phase
  • Set specific actions for the next fortnight
  • Same time, same coach, every fortnight. Consistency drives results.

What Happens When You Have the Right Coach

Safety incidents were our biggest liability. After implementing a formal tree hazard assessment checklist and a crew safety briefing process, we went 24 months without incidents. Insurance is pleased.

24 months incident-free

I was quoting by gut feel. After timing our crews on 20 jobs and sorting by tree size and complexity, I could quote accurately. Crew no longer works weekends catching up.

Accurate quoting - 5 day week

Equipment utilisation was terrible until I started tracking it. I discovered I could schedule jobs to increase equipment use from 45% to 78%. Same equipment, 40% more revenue.

+40% equipment revenue

Before and After Freedom Fighter

Before

  • Hazard assessment is informal - you look at the tree and call it safe
  • Safety protocols exist informally - crew does their own thing
  • Job quoting is by feel, not measured from past work
  • Crew works excessive hours on complex jobs to hit timelines
  • Equipment sits idle without tracking utilisation
  • Each job feels unpredictable

After

  • Every tree gets a formal hazard assessment - size, species, location, risks documented
  • Safety protocols are documented and crew briefed before every job
  • Job timing is calculated from your baseline for tree size and complexity
  • Crew works predictable hours because quoting is accurate
  • Equipment utilisation is tracked - you optimise scheduling
  • Each job follows the same proven assessment and safety process

Freedom Fighter Is Built for Complex Businesses

This is not an entry-level program. It is built for tree service operator business owners who have outgrown generic advice and need structured, personalised support for the problems only they can see.

This is for you if

  • Your business has grown past what one person can manage alone
  • You have tried group programs or other coaches and they did not get your trade
  • Your problems are layered - HR, finance, operations, leadership - all at once
  • You want a coach from the trades who has helped hundreds scale, not someone who studied it
  • You are building for owner freedom - not just more revenue

This is not for you if

  • You want a magic bullet - this is structured, long-term work
  • You are not willing to change how your business operates
  • You think competing on price is a strategy
  • You want someone to do the work for you instead of with you
  • You are happy with how things are and not ready to commit to change

Before You Apply

How do you assess tree hazard without a professional arborist on every job?
You create a tree hazard assessment checklist: species, size, location (near power, house, fence), lean (is it off-vertical?), dead wood, visible disease. You document with photos. You assess risk level. High risk requires extra planning.
How do you establish safety protocols that every crew follows?
You document standard safety: personal protective equipment (PPE), climbing harnesses and tie-offs, ground crew positioning, drop zones, communication signals. Every crew briefing covers these. Non-compliance is a firing offense.
How do you quote tree jobs if complexity varies so much?
You time your crew on different tree types and sizes: small residential tree (hours), large residential tree (hours), difficult location tree (hours). You develop a baseline. You quote from baseline.
How do you manage tool or safety equipment replacement costs?
You build equipment replacement into your overhead. Every job has a small percentage allocated to new PPE, harnesses, ropes. Equipment refresh is a built-in cost, not a surprise.
What do you do if the tree hazard is higher than you quoted?
You stop work, document the hazard, inform the customer with options and cost to address it, and adjust the contract. You don't absorb surprises. Customer decides: proceed with extra cost or decline.
How do you schedule jobs to improve equipment utilisation?
You track equipment availability and job complexity. You schedule jobs to keep equipment busy. Large tree with aerial lift required? Schedule three jobs that week using the lift. Small pruning jobs? Batch them geographically to reduce travel time.
How do you handle customer requests that seem unsafe?
Your safety standard is non-negotiable. If customer asks you to cut a tree in a way that violates your safety protocol, you explain why it's unsafe, offer the safe approach, and let customer decide. You don't compromise safety for money.
