WHY GENERIC DOES NOT WORK

Running a scaffolding business means managing equipment utilisation, seasonal demand, and crew certification complexity

Whether it's equipment sitting idle between jobs, crews working on jobs they're not certified for, or seasonal peaks that leave you scrambling. Here's what we see scaffolder business owners wrestling with:

Your equipment has massive idle time

Scaffolding is expensive. If it's sitting idle 40% of the time, you're financing non-productive assets. You don't track utilisation. You don't know how bad it is.

You're scrambling to schedule seasonal peaks

Summer comes, every construction project starts at once, you've got no capacity. Winter comes, equipment sits. You hire and fire crews with the season instead of smoothing demand.

Crew certification is a compliance nightmare

Different jobs require different certifications (working at height, SCAF, rigging). You don't track who has what. You put uncertified crew on jobs, exposing yourself to liability.

You don't understand your unit economics

You don't know your cost per day of equipment hire. You don't know your crew cost per installation. You quote by feel. Some jobs are profitable, some aren't. You have no idea which.

You are the bottleneck for every decision in the business

Every quote, every problem, every scheduling conflict lands on your desk. Your team waits for you. Your clients wait for you. You cannot step away for a week without the business grinding to a halt. That is not a business, it is a job with more risk.

You have no visibility on actual profit per job

You look at the bank account and assume you are profitable. But you are not tracking real labour cost per job, material waste, travel time, or callback frequency. Some of your jobs are making money. Some are losing it. You do not know which ones.

Built for Owners Whose Problems Are Not Simple

You have tried the group thing. You have sat in rooms with coaches who have never run a scaffolding business. You have done the courses. None of it was built for the complexity you are dealing with now. This is.

This is for you if

  • You've got equipment that you suspect is underutilised but don't track it
  • Seasonal demand swings stress your team and you're not planning ahead
  • Crew certification compliance is loosely managed and it worries you
  • You want to grow without buying more equipment
  • You're pricing jobs inconsistently and some feel unprofitable

This is not for you if

  • You're running a single-crew, small-job operation with no plans to scale
  • Your equipment utilisation is already optimised and you're at capacity
  • You already have rigorous crew certification tracking and compliance
  • You're not interested in growing revenue or managing multiple teams
  • Your business is already highly systematised

They Were Where You Are. Here Is What Changed.

These scaffolder business owners were exactly where you are. Here is what changed.

A Structured Path From Where You Are to Where You Want to Be

Freedom Fighter is not a course. It is a structured, phase-matched training program. Your coach meets you at your current stage and builds the systems you need - in the right order - to move to the next one.

Phase 1

Foundation

You are the business. Subbie or sole trader, maybe one or two staff. The focus here is financial visibility, basic job management, and building the commercial foundation that everything else sits on. Most owners skip this and wonder why nothing works later.

Phase 2

Growth

You have tradies on the tools but no admin support. Revenue is growing but so is the chaos. This phase is about hiring your first office person, building standard operating procedures, and creating the structure that lets you step back from every job.

Phase 3

Expansion

You have tradies and admin but no operations manager. The business runs but still needs you for every major decision. This phase builds the leadership layer, delegation frameworks, and operational systems that let you start stepping away from day-to-day.

Phase 4

Scale

Full team in place. GM or operations manager running the business. This phase is custom - it is about refining what you have built, protecting your margins, planning your next move, and making sure the business continues to perform without you in it.

Your Coach. Your Business. Your Agenda.

Fortnightly Coaching. Same Time. Same Day.

This is not group training. Every session is a private conversation between you and your coach. Same time, same day, every fortnight. Focused entirely on your business, your challenges, and your next move. Accountability is built into the structure.

  1. Phase Assessment - Your coach identifies where you are and what needs to happen next. No guessing.
  2. System Build - Each session delivers a specific system, framework, or decision that moves your business forward.
  3. Implementation - You apply it between sessions. Your coach holds you accountable at the next one.
  4. Review & Adjust - What worked, what did not, what changes. Your plan evolves as your business does.
Typical Session Structure
Fortnightly. Zoom. Accountability.
  • Review progress since last session
  • Address your current blockers and challenges
  • Deliver the next system or framework for your phase
  • Set specific actions for the next fortnight
  • Same time, same coach, every fortnight. Consistency drives results.

What Happens When You Have the Right Coach

We were leaving equipment idle without tracking it. After implementing a simple utilisation dashboard, we realised we could add two more projects per week using existing equipment. That's $40k per month of new revenue with zero new capital.

+$480k annual revenue

Crew certifications were all over the place. We created a certification matrix and a training plan. Now every crew member knows exactly what jobs they can work. Compliance sorted, no more guessing.

100% crew compliance tracked

I had no idea what my actual unit economics were. After tracking setup time, crew hours, and equipment days per job, I could quote confidently and know which projects were worth taking. Margin clarity changed everything.

Margin visibility in all quotes

Before and After Freedom Fighter

Before

  • Equipment sits idle without tracking utilisation rates
  • You hire and fire crews with seasonal demand instead of planning
  • Crew certifications are managed informally - compliance risk is high
  • You quote scaffolding jobs without understanding your cost per day
  • Setup and takedown times are guesses, not measured
  • You have no idea which projects are actually profitable

After

  • Equipment utilisation is tracked - you know idle rates and can optimise
  • Crew scheduling is planned for the year - capacity and workload are managed
  • Crew certifications are documented and matched to job requirements
  • You quote from your actual cost per installation and crew hours
  • Setup and takedown are timed and scheduled into every quote
  • You know exactly which job types are profitable and price accordingly

Freedom Fighter Is Built for Complex Businesses

This is not an entry-level program. It is built for scaffolder business owners who have outgrown generic advice and need structured, personalised support for the problems only they can see.

This is for you if

  • Your business has grown past what one person can manage alone
  • You have tried group programs or other coaches and they did not get your trade
  • Your problems are layered - HR, finance, operations, leadership - all at once
  • You want a coach from the trades who has helped hundreds scale, not someone who studied it
  • You are building for owner freedom - not just more revenue

This is not for you if

  • You want a magic bullet - this is structured, long-term work
  • You are not willing to change how your business operates
  • You think competing on price is a strategy
  • You want someone to do the work for you instead of with you
  • You are happy with how things are and not ready to commit to change

Before You Apply

How do you measure equipment utilisation without complex software?
You track a simple metric: days booked vs days available per month. Booked means on a job (generating revenue). Available means not booked. Target 70%+ utilisation. Track monthly, identify idle periods, plan better.
How do you plan for seasonal demand without over-hiring?
You forecast 12 months out based on prior years. You identify peak months. You hire permanent crew for baseline demand and casual crew for peaks. You plan equipment maintenance during slow seasons, not during peaks.
How do you manage crew certifications at scale?
You create a certification matrix: jobs listed across the top, crew names down the side, certifications marked in. You update it monthly. You only assign crew to jobs where they're certified. Non-compliance is visible in the matrix.
What's your cost baseline for a scaffold installation quote?
Labour (hours to install + takedown), equipment (days on-site), transport, permits. Once you know your crew installs X sqm per day and your equipment is $Y per day, you quote from those numbers.
How do you account for setup time without eating the cost?
Setup is part of every quote. You measure it once (how long for your standard setup), you include that time in every job. Clients understand - setup is in the price.
How do you decide whether to hire more crew or decline work?
You compare the marginal profit of new crew against the cost. If the job margin covers the crew cost with 30%+ profit left, you hire. If it doesn't, you decline. You don't hire just to take work.
How do you handle site-specific certifications (high-rise, confined space, etc.)?
You build certification requirements into your quoting process - you identify the site constraints upfront, you identify the certifications needed, you check your crew matrix, you either accept the job with certified crew or decline.
